Puppy Kindergarten is a SIRIUS innovation. It is a set of four classes designed to ensure that you receive urgent training at the earliest possible time. There are three elements of puppy training that must be addressed in a puppy’s first three months of life:

1) Puppies must be thoroughly, yet safely, socialized to people so that later in life, they do not become wary or fearful of children, strangers, or men.

2) Puppies must learn to be gentle with their mouths so they do not inflict serious injury on people or animals as their jaws grow substantially stronger.

3) Puppies must learn how to live in a human home so they do not damage your belongings or suffer from separation anxiety.

Though not as urgent as the above items, puppies will be introduced to basic manners and obedience commands as well. While you may have your puppy on hand for a little bit of practice and demonstration, Puppy Kindergarten is primarily a seminar-style course which provides information for you on how to set your pup up for success.

Don’t feed your puppy right before class. Instead, bring their kibble to class in a ziploc bag for use as lures and rewards while training. Also bring a few extra-tasty treats to reward your pup for their best performances. Make sure your treats are in small, bite-sized pieces that won’t fill your pup up or take long for them to eat.

Requirements:

Age: On the start date of the class, pups must be between 8 weeks and 14 weeks old.

This Live Online class will be conducted using Zoom and will require a high-speed internet connection and a computer or mobile device.

Puppy I is so much fun and hugely educational!

In this online course taught using Zoom, we’ll teach you how to safely socialize your puppy and acclimate them to places such as the vet and groomer. Puppies will learn the building blocks of important skills including come, sit, settle down, leave it and more. You’ll learn how to address and prevent common puppy behavior and temperament problems such as puppy biting, jumping up, and pulling on leash. Classes are kept small to ensure individual attention.

Requirements:

Age: On the start date of class, pups must be between 12-18 weeks old.

There is no prerequisite for this class, however Puppy Kindergarten is strongly recommended as a starting point for puppies under 14 weeks of age.

If your dog is older than 18 weeks old and has not completed Puppy Training I, Basic Manners Foundations is the age-appropriate class.

Early puppy training is as easy as it is enjoyable. Much more challenging though, is to ensure that your puppy maintains bite inhibition, remains socialized and friendly to other dogs and people, and continues to pay heed to your instructions while working through adolescence. Training focuses on proofing verbal control without the need for food lures or rewards, or any other training tools. Exercises include distance sits in play (for the home, yard, dog parks and off-leash walks), settle down, rock-solid stays, and both off-leash and on-leash walking and heeling. Puppy 2 will help you teach your adolescent pup to be calm, attentive and responsive and to respond quickly, willingly and happily, especially when distracted, off-leash, and at a distance.
