Dog Training I is an entry-level class for dogs that are older than 18 weeks on their first day of class and who are comfortable around other people and dogs. For safety reasons, Dog Training I is held entirely on-leash.

$249 for 5 weekly 50-minute sessions.

Dog Training I is a safe and confined environment where you can train your dog in the presence of other dogs, under the supervision of a skilled dog training instructor who can provide feedback about your technique and help you overcome any obstacles that stand between you and your training goals.

The focus of each Dog Training class can vary depending on the needs and learning goals of the students but most classes will focus on teaching and troubleshooting fundamental skills that will make it much easier to manage your dog and keep them safe and happy:

  • Body Positions like Sit, Down, and Stand, together with Stay and Watch Me.
  • Controlled Walking and Greetings, including Heeling, Walking on a Loose Leash, and Greeting Other People/Dogs Politely (without jumping up, barking or losing control).
  • Object management Skills like Off (aka Leave It), Take It, and Thank You (aka Release) with Toys, as well as Off & Take It using Food.

Dog Training I can be repeated as many times as you like. Keep coming back and we can show you how to phase out the need for food lures and teach your dog to reliably follow hand signals and eventually, verbal instructions, even in the face of high-level distractions.

All SIRIUS Students get three months of access to an immense library of on-demand online dog training videos that make it easy to practice at home in between classes, so you get the most out of your time in class.

Requirements:

Age: For dogs 18 weeks (127 days) or older on the first day of class.

Temperament: Dogs must be comfortable being around other dogs and people. Excited and playful behavior is cool; but dogs who are fearful or reactive, or who bark excessively in a manner that is uncontrollable or disruptive should instead look into private lessons with an experienced dog trainer first.

Vaccine: For Dog Training I we require dogs to have their rabies vaccine and up-to-date DHLPP/DHPP vaccine.

Handlers: We require at least one adult per enrolled dog. We encourage the whole family to attend the class together but if children are three years or younger, a second adult must be present.
